13. Siyahamba
St. Camillus music ministers have been known to refer to this multilingual setting of the popular Freedom chant as our "theme" song! Translating as We are marching in the light of God, the languages represented here include English, Spanish, French and Swahili – 4 of our community’s more widely spoken – as well as the original Zulu. We only wish we’d had time and space to include some of the other languages in which we have come to enjoy singing Siyahamba, which include Arabic, Italian, Bangla, and, most recently, Korean! Indeed , we have found that no matter the language, this inspired song truly makes manifest God’s marvelous light. 14. Postlude: Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3 Again featuring Andrea Heilmann on flute, this masterpiece from the great 18th century German composer seemed an appropriate conclusion to our first recording; Bach inscribed all of his sacred compositions with the Latin phrase, Soli Deo Gloria – that is, to God alone be the glory. Acknowledgements Soli Deo Gloria! was recorded live at the Connelly Chapel of Holy Wisdom, Washington Theological Union, Washington, DC on February 14, 2004, except for tracks #1, #8 and #14, which were recorded in April 2004 at Gizmo Recording Studio, Silver Spring, MD. Special thanks to Robert Allen, Lorenzo Bundy, Fran Eskin-Royer, Reuben Gardner, Don MacLellan, and Dan McLellan and of Washington Theological Union for their gracious assistance, and especially to Rev. Lawrence Hayes, OFM, Pastor of St. Camillus, for his generosity, vision and faithful support of the music ministry.
